Food Hoarding in Greece: Are We Close?
Beautiful Greece has had financial and political problems going on for quite some time. The turmoil in the streets have sent the nation into a chaotic spiral and the uncertainty of the elections hasn’t helped any.The people in Greece have now resorted to hoarding food in an attempt to offset any more chaos caused by the upcoming elections.

Greeks pulled their cash out of the banks and stocked up with food ahead of a cliffhanger election on Sunday that many fear will result in the country being forced out of the euro.Bankers said up to 800 million euros ($1 billion) were leaving major banks daily and retailers said some of the money was being used to buy pasta and canned goods, as fears of returning to the drachma were fanned by rumors that a radical leftist leader may win the election.The last published opinion polls showed the conservative New Democracy party, which backs the 130 billion euro ($160 billion) bailout that is keeping Greece afloat, running neck and neck with the leftist Syriza party, which wants to cancel the rescue deal.
A run on the banks and people hurrying to buy up food in never a good thing for an economy. Especially when that economy is on the brink of ruin and the country is about to be kicked out of the Eurozone.
The Euro was a bad idea in the first place. As I’ve said before when you take different countries, with different cultures and different values, a common currency isn’t feasible.
How close is the US to such a problem?
While I don’t believe that we are as close to total collapse as Greece, we are in a pretty dire predicament. The US has a much stronger financial position in the world than Greece does, but that doesn’t make us immune from problematic spending policies and a debt crisis. Does that mean Americans will start hoarding food and make a run on the banks? I bet you’ll see it more and more here. You’ll notice the prepper movement has become much more popular in recent years. More and more people are moving toward a more self-reliant type of lifestyle.
What does that mean for you? It means that dark clouds over Europe will soon spread to the US. How you handle it is up to you. Don’t be blind-sided by a tidal wave that we’ve seen coming at us for quite some time. Remember normalcy bias? Don’t let it get the best of you.
While I don’t see an apocalyptic scenario for the US, I do see some very tough times ahead. Be ready.
